Cushing disease can be a cause for this as well. There are some medical treatments and they are effective in 70% of these cases, the treatment includes steroids, cough suppressants, and antibiotics. Weight loss will help your pet if it is obese and keeping irritants away from your pet. In moderate to severe cases surgery is required and the vet will place a stent to hold the trachea open.
