Ahoy me hearties! If you’re looking for something fun to try on your Majorca family holidays then why not do something out of the ordinary and visit the island’s best pirate-themed attractions. With activities for adults and children alike we can guarantee that this list will uncover hidden treasures buried beneath Majorca’s popular tourist facade.

Pirate’s Adventure

Before you start exploring the area on your Majorca family holidays, we recommend that you take the family to meet some of Majorca’s resident pirates; after all you’re going to have to suss out the competition at some point. You’ll meet Sir Henry Morgan and his band of brave buccaneers at the Pirates Theatre in Magaluf. Watch in awe as they defeat their French foes through a spectacular mixture of gymnastics, dance and martial arts. The Pirates Adventure is suitable for the whole family, and guests can sip on fruity grog whilst watching Henry Morgan’s quest for the treasure. After hours it’s the Pirate’s Adventure Show Uncut, a show that’s strictly for the over-18s, which comes with much debauchery and a bottle of rum.

The Caves of Drach

Once you’ve helped Sir Henry Morgan uncover the hidden treasure you may need to hide it from those pesky French foes. One of the best spots for hiding pieces of eight and smuggled goods is the Caves of Drach, and it just so happens that this is an excellent destination to visit on Majorca family holidays. The caves consist of three separate chambers, the White Cave, the Black Cave and the Luis Salvator Cave. The caves are linked by one of the largest subterranean lakes in the world and the only way to get around is by boat. This mode of transport allows you to get up close to the stalagmites and stalactites that protrude from the roof and floor of the cave and, with an orchestra playing Chopin every hour, it certainly creates for a beautiful and ethereal atmosphere.

Marineland

With the Balearics now free of pirates, Majorca family holidays are perfectly safe and you definitely won’t see any pirate ships loitering around the many sandy beaches. Although chances are that this fact is more likely to disappoint your children than have them jumping for joy. In these circumstances you can cheer them up with a visit to a mock pirate ship and the one at Marineland, in the children’s area, is perfect for children of all ages. Of course a trip to Marineland isn’t complete without visiting the dolphin and sea lion shows. The shows take place every day and, when the dolphins aren’t performing, you can watch them swimming in their own environment via an underwater tunnel.

Fiesta La Patrona

For the best pirate experience, you’ll need to tie your Majorca family holidays in with the Fiesta La Patrona, which takes place every year in August. The event re-enacts the 1550 midnight battle between Joan Mas and the invading Barbery pirates. The villagers take to the streets in tatty pyjamas and face-paint with cutlasses, swords and sticks. The mock battle ends at around 10pm with a succession of fireworks and, in true Spanish fiesta style, the locals will party until the early hours.
